Tradition in Hospitality in Ammouliani

Our family was one of the first refugees from Asia Minor to live on the island. At first they were engaged in fishing but very quickly abandoned it to deal with the transportation of passengers and goods to the island and Mount Athos. In addition to transportation, they also engaged in maritime tourism, cruises in the bay of Mount Athos.

Having been engaged with hospitality since 1969, they built the first modern building with rooms for rent, called "OSTRIA".

"OSTRIA" has apartments and rooms with fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, electric hobs), TV, air condition, bathroom and large terraces.

In 2010 they fulfill a dream, a wish by making something unique, special, original, with a lot of passion and personal style, a small hotel "NEORION", which consists of 1 single room, 3 two-room apartments, and the cafe - "MOURAGIO" refreshment room.

The 4 apartments are fully equipped with 2 air conditioners, 2 TVs, DVD, satellite, telephone, hairdryer, washing machine, iron, refrigerator, electric oven, coffee maker, toaster, bathroom, private terraces etc.

The two complexes are located 15 m. from the sea, in a bay with a nice sandy beach and its own pier - port overlooking the endless blue, Ouranoupolis and the peninsula of Mount Athos.

Ammouliani, The history of the Island

Ammouliani is the only inhabited island of Halkidiki. Until 1925 it was part of the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos, where a few monks lived who managed the property of the Monastery. From that period there are still today the Church, Tarsanas and various other buildings in which the monks lived.

In 1925 it was granted to the refugees from Asia Minor, residents of the villages of Gallimi, Pasalimani and Skoupia, from the islands of Marmara near Constantinople.

The refugees brought with them their hospitality, culture, manners and customs. They were engaged in viticulture and the sea, where they distinguished themselves in the field of fisheries.

Today the permanent population of the island is about 700 inhabitants and they are engaged in fishing and tourism.
